Essential Oils for the Mind

You probably know that essential oils are great to make a room smell nice – most of us love citrus scents, like oranges or lemongrass, or floral scents of jasmine and rose. Or you might have heard or even used a few drops of eucalyptus oil in a vaporizer to fight away cold and flu during colder seasons.

But do you know that essential oils have research-backed psychological properties and can help with common conditions affecting our minds? Using essential oils to improve mental well-being is an essential part of ALY’S product philosophy. In this article we want to talk about some of the most amazing oils for the mind.

1. Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis)

Rosemary can grow up to 90 cm in height and has three varieties: silver, gold and green stripe. The green variety is used for its medicinal properties. Rosemary is rich in bitter principle, resin, tannic acid and volatile oil.

Rosemary is one of the most stimulating oils for the tired mind. And recent research has shown that rosemary is effective in treating dementia. It can also significantly improve brain functioning and even stop the progress of the Alzheimer’s disease. A great reason to include rosemary in as many products we can! Miracle Plants Facial Oil, Everyday Serum and Cleaning Me Softly Gentle Face Wash all contain rosemary.

2. Geranium (Pelargonium graveolens)

Geranium is one of the best natural perfumes. Its oil is often used in soaps as its nature remains unchanged in high alkaline environments. For the mind, geranium oil can help with anxiety and stress and has a calming effect on the nervous system.

The oil also has anti-bacterial properties and can help in coping with the pain.

We use geranium essential oil in the pampering and so-relaxing Power of the Earth Facial Mask and the get-me-ready-for-the-day Everyday Serum.

3. Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)

Lavender is probably one of the most well-know, loved and much-used essential oils. Known as ‘magical healer’, lavender oil is great for your first-aid kit due to its anti-bacterial and generally very safe properties. The lavender aroma is floral without sweetness.

The oil’s calming and sedative properties help relax, fight stress and promote sleep. That’s why our Just One Sleep Night Cream uses this amazing, skin and soul loving essential oil, plus lavender hydrosol – to get you nice and relaxed for a well-deserved rest at night.

4. May Chang (Litsea cubeba)

And the last oil we want to mention in this blog is a refreshing citrusy may chang. Great for acne and oily skin, this essential has a powerful lemon scent: Even when used in quantities under 0.1% you will be able to smell its presence.

As most citrusy scents, may chang is uplifting, stimulating and wonderful for managing anxiety, stress and restlessness. For its great pick-me-up properties in the morning and de-stressing qualities in the evening we decided to incorporate may chang in Miracle Plants Facial Oil, along with frankincense, Siberian fir, juniperberry and Ho leaf.
